Awareness Program on BIS Held at Government Polytechnic for Women,

Today, on 10th May 2024, an insightful awareness program on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was conducted at Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar. The program aimed to enlighten participants about the pivotal role of BIS as the national standards body of India and its significant contributions to ensuring quality, safety, and reliability in products and services across various sectors.The highlight of the event was the presence of Mr. Uzair Qadri, a distinguished resource person from the Bureau of Indian Standards, who shared valuable insights and expertise on the functions and importance of BIS in standardization processes. Mr. Qadri emphasized that BIS plays a crucial role in the development of standards, certification of products, and establishment of quality management systems, thereby promoting competitiveness and consumer welfare in the Indian industry.
Participants, including students and faculty members, actively engaged in the program, gaining valuable insights into the role and functions of BIS in standardization. They appreciated the opportunity to interact with Mr. Qadri and deepen their understanding of the importance of BIS standards in various sectors.Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) also conduct Standard Writing Competition on Packaged Drinking Water (IS 14543) wherein students from various branches showed enthusiastic participation, with participants showcasing their knowledge and expertise in standard writing.
After careful evaluation by the esteemed panel of judges, the following winners were announced:
1st Position: Masooma Afzal from the Office Management and Computer Applications category clinched the top spot, demonstrating exemplary skills in standard writing. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000/- for her outstanding contribution.
2nd Position: Rizwana Akther, representing Food Technology, secured the second position with her commendable efforts in standard formulation. She received a cash prize of Rs 750/- in recognition of her achievement.
3rd Position: Adfar Manzoor, from the Medical Laboratory field, claimed the third position for his valuable insights and contributions to the standardization process. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs 500/- for his noteworthy performance.4th Position: Mehfooza, representing Electronics and Communication Engineering, made a significant impact with her participation and secured the fourth position. She received a cash prize of Rs 250/- for her commendable efforts.The winners were lauded for their dedication, creativity, and commitment to promoting excellence in standardization. Their contributions will play a crucial role in shaping the future of standards for packaged drinking water in India, ensuring consumer safety and satisfaction.The awareness program underscored the commitment of Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, towards promoting awareness and understanding of quality standards among its stakeholders. Such initiatives contribute to fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and consumer protection in the Indian industry.All participants were given refreshments through BIS and at the end of the session the Mentor Munir Ahmad Mir expressed his thanks and gratitude on behalf of the principal for conducting such awareness program for our students.
