Chinese researchers have made a new kind of water-based battery that can store almost twice as much energy as regular lithium batteries. This breakthrough could mean we can use water batteries in electric cars.”They also stated that their water-based battery was safer than non-aqueous lithium batteries, which they described as ‘highly flammable’. According to the paper, lithium batteries are widely used globally due to their high energy density. However, traditional lithium batteries contain a non-aqueous electrolyte, which is flammable.”Aqueous batteries use a water-based electrolyte, which is safer. However, these batteries usually have a lower energy density than non-aqueous batteries, being under 200Wh/L, as per the team’s findings. The researchers mentioned that because of this lower energy density, aqueous batteries are mainly suitable for big stationary energy storage purposes. To tackle this problem, the team created an electrolyte based on bromine and iodine, aiming to solve the energy density limitations.#water #Battery #waterbattery #China #technology #energy
